October 24, 2024

Elektrobit’s approach to software-defined mobility is recognized as being best in class in the global automotive operating systems industry.

ERLANGEN, Germany, October 24, 2024 – Elektrobit, a leader in software-defined mobility, was presented with the 2023 ´Enabling Technology Leadership Award´ by analyst firm Frost & Sullivan. The award recognizes the vendor’s efforts in enabling the transition to software-defined mobility for OEMs worldwide by collaboratively building automotive-grade operating systems (OS) and providing the software and tools necessary to accelerate innovations in the field.

Frost & Sullivan’s ´Enabling Technology Leadership Award´ recognizes the company that applies its technology in new ways to improve existing products and services and elevate the customer experience. Elektrobit stands out from competitors based on its commitment to innovation, creativity, and ability to launch new solutions with far-reaching impact and application. The company provides flexible and pioneering solutions for car infrastructure software, connectivity, security, autonomous driving, and enhancements for the user experience. Its products and services are designed to reduce complexity and accelerate the development of automotive OS projects while enabling safety and security today and over the lifetime of a vehicle. Its customer-centric values earn Elektrobit a solid reputation in the automotive market.

As co-creators of future-mobility, Elektrobit continues to garner a strong customer base through partnerships, project collaborations, and long-lasting relationships in the automotive industry. One noteworthy partnership is with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). In 2021, Elektrobit provided its engineering expertise to JLR, creating a strong team for feature enhancements. In 2023, the company announced JLR’s success since using Elektrobit’s software platform. By incorporating Elektrobit’s services into its vehicles, JLR is building its next-generation electrical architecture, which will be available in its 2024 models. Moreover, Elektrobit played a crucial role in Sony Honda Mobility (SHM)’s new electronic vehicle prototype, AFFELA. It created the software architecture for AFEELA, integrating its services for the cockpit system as well as enabling SHM to leverage the entire Sony ecosystem and enhance the user experience.

As an advocate for standardization and collaboration, Elektrobit is actively involved with industry standards and certifications, including AUTOSAR, CAN, GENIVI, LIN, MOST, NDS, and OSEK. In 2022, the company joined the Eclipse Foundation’s Software Defined Vehicle Working Group, allowing Elektrobit to push its open-source approach and drive innovation for next-generation mobility solutions. For example, in 2023, the company launched EB corbos Linux – built on Ubuntu, an industry-first automotive-grade open-source operating system for high-performance computing. The software package is customizable, cloud-ready, meets security and industry regulations, and provides OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers with the SDK, tooling and source code for developing electronic ECUs in software-defined vehicles. In 2024, the next evolution followed: the world’s first open source-based automotive OS solution compliant with automotive functional safety standards, EB corbos Linux for Safety Applications.

“Frost & Sullivan finds that Elektrobit enables the transition to software-defined mobility by providing the tools necessary to build function-specific automotive OS through a collaborative process with OEMs,” said Steven Lopez, Best Practices Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan. “The company is well-positioned to drive the automotive OS space into its next growth phase, capturing market share and sustaining its leadership in the coming years.”

“The transition towards software-defined mobility must be a collaborative effort; this means that vertical as well as horizontal partnerships are necessary. This award underlines not only our successes as a software vendor but also creates awareness for the importance of partnerships, collaboration, and open-source projects,” said Maria Anhalt, CEO of Elektrobit. “For that reason, I am very grateful that Elektrobit’s efforts in the automotive OS space are being recognized.”
