The challenge
Continental was nominated by a German OEM for the development and integration of an ADAS ECU designed for SAE Level 2/2+ driving functions.
The hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) systems were required to (re)simulate the data communication of the surrounding ECUs by replaying test drive data to Continental’s ADAS ECU. The HiL-enabled tests covered:
- Functional integration tests (FIT)
- Performance KPI tests under realistic (and extreme) load
- Endurance and stability tests
Constraints:
- Developing and delivering a fully operational solution in a short time in parallel to the dynamic ECU development.
- Replay of service-based and non-service-based Ethernet communication including secure data communication protocols such as E2E, SecOc, TLS/DTLS encryption.
- Manipulation of input data to support complex test scenarios.
- Monitoring of ECU output signals to automatically assess test results and support signal visualization for testers.
The solution
Holistic replay HiL solution:
- Time-synchronized, highly precise re-injection of 8x Automotive Ethernet (1Gbit, 100Mbit) and 1x CAN streams.
- ADTF-based solution which can be tailored to the test cases by adapting the configuration or even extending the functionality by the customer’s own ADTF filters.
- Self-assessment of high-quality data replay using Elektrobit’s “Precision & Correctness report”.
- Highly skilled, dedicated project team closely interacting with the customer to support the ECU development with flexible feature implementation and valuable feedback on ECU software implementation.
Benefits:
- Easy adaptation of the data HiL configuration to support both variants of the developed ECU (3x or 8x Automotive ETH injection) and beyond.
- Remote control of HiL systems for scheduling of data replay or software deployment jobs, also within CI/CD/CT.
- Future extendibility for technologies such as, for instance, camera interfaces (GMSL, FPD-Link).
